Treatment for Abdomnial Adhesion

Treatment for abdominal and pelvic adhesion currently falls along two lines. The first is the current medical model witch generally consists of surgery and pain medication. The second is under the purview of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) and can consist of massage, acupuncture, and specialized physical therapy. Unfortunately, there aren't a huge number of specialists in this field and the approaches thus far are not unified. However, the CAM therapies all have in common:

1. A committment to full resolution of the problem

2. A committment to treatments that don't make the problem worse or mask the symptoms

3. The understanding that abdominal adhesions don't just affect the abdomen, that they have the potential to affect the entire body and person.

This is not to say that the western medical community is negligent or uncaring. Doctors care deeply, but because their research and experiences are different from the CAM community, treatments differ widely and generally have very different effects.

Some practitioners of abdominal massage study techniques specific to the abdomen, such as Maya Abdominal Massage or Clear Passage Therapies, and some of us (myself included) have moved into this work after years of observing and treating adhesion throughout the entire body and seeing incredible results in all areas. Acupuncture can also create a huge change in abdominal adhesions.

When you are considering and choosing therapy for your adhesions, ask lots of questions and make sure that the therapist is a good fit for you and your needs. We are all happy to talk to you about your individual situation and most everyone will tell you very frankly whether or not they will be able to help you.
